Repping brands in the Toon

Newcastle’s Brand Managers on Campus. You’ve met the first round, now meet the others; these BMOC’s have even more to offer in terms of knowledge and freebies.

Rosie Kidd – Times 100

Year/Course: Fourth year Arts, Business and Creativity

Why did you choose to work for Times 100? When I heard about the role over summer, I thought it would be a really good opportunity to learn more about employment opportunities after graduating, with specific insight into the UK’s most prestigious companies. I also think that in doing this role, I’ll gain transferable skills and knowledge for finding a job after uni.

What are the main perks of the job? It's really flexible – you can choose whenever you want to work, there is the opportunity to network and meet professional contacts. Also, there are often prizes/bonuses given out to the best performing managers across the UK, and I get to pick a small team (one first and one second year) to work with, which makes it nice and sociable!

What's your favourite way to promote the brand? Social media posts have been a really good way of promoting, as well as around campus at SU and library, and even around Jesmond. Freebies and sweets also always entice people to sign up.

Which Newcastle nightclub best describes you? Soho, I'm all about the build up.

Favourite drunk food: Has to be pizza from the place next to Tup – 100 per cent.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself: I once played Jemima in the UK tour of chitty chitty bang bang hahaha.

Where do you see yourself in ten years' time? Hopefully working for one of The Times top 100 graduate employers.

Max Desoutter – Fixr

Year/Course: Third year Geography and Planning.

Why did you choose to work for Fixr? I was approached for the role because of all my involvement in events already. Fixr is also easy and simple to use – has been a very helpful platform for starting up my night for both selling my tickets and advertising on.

What are the main perks of the job? It’s a great job because it’s flexible around uni work, well paid with a fixed retainer payment for every term for being part of the team. Also as head manager, you get to manage a team which is great life skills to exercise.

What’s your favourite way to promote the brand? I mostly just keep up to date with what’s on and use word of mouth to promote ticket sales through Fixr. I pitch to event companies too, try and persuade them to change ticket platforms.

Which Newcastle nightclub best describes you? CLK:WRK at Warehouse SR44. Because I made it.

Favourite drunk food: Anything from magic flame.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself: I have extremely small ears.

Where do you see yourself in ten years’ time? Kit man for Chelsea football club.

Lucy Spencer – Bumble

Year/Course: Third year Education.

Why did you choose to work for Bumble? Bumble is an amazing, forward thinking, global brand. Not only is it changing the dating game by letting women make the first move, it has created a great new platform Bumble Bizz that helps people create business connections – perfect for students graduating or looking for the perfect internship!

What are the main perks of the job? We have a lot of freedom, the Newcastle Honeys (AKA Bumble's Student Ambassadors) get to decide on what events we think people will enjoy the most and will create the most 'buzz'. We also get amazing Bumble merch that all my friends are jealous of!

What's your favourite way to promote the brand? Bumble love out of the box and innovative marketing, so we do anything from a doughnut giveaway to a Bumble Bus Tour to get the brand name out there.

What Newcastle nightclub best describes you? Swingers – because who doesn't love a night on the terrace.

Favourite drunk food: Cheesy chips and garlic sauce – always.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself: I didn't try eggs until I was 16.

Where do you see yourself in ten years' time? Running my own business (and driving a Range Rover with a private reg!).

Millie Vans Agnew – Frontline

Image may contain: Umbrella, Human, Person, People

Year/Course: Third year History and Sociology

Why did you choose to work for Frontline? Frontline’s mission is to transform the lives of the most vulnerable children and families by driving change. The two-year leadership development programme offers an amazing opportunity to gain a postgraduate diploma in year one and study for a Master’s qualification in year two whilst being paid (up to £35k). I want to get across to students that it’s a chance to pursue something truly worthwhile and gain transferable skills that are hugely valued by top employers.

What are the main perks of the job? Various bits of Frontline stash (rate the pens), very decent pay and just knowing that you’re encouraging and getting students to go into a career that is genuinely worthwhile and could make such a difference to young people’s lives.

What's your favourite way to promote the brand? I do a lot of emailing, use the careers services and the courier. I haven’t done it yet but I’m also going to try attaching leaflets about the events on campus/programme to little packets of sweet/chocolates.

What Newcastle nightclub best describes you? I'd like to be worldies but not sure I qualify.

Favourite drunk food: Weird, but baked beans on toast…

Tell us a fun fact about yourself: I have a pair of flamingo slippers.

Where do you see yourself in ten years time? No clue but hopefully very successful and doing some form of charity work.
