Mobike is officially here in the Toon

Get excited

Following the success of the popular bike hire scheme in London, the famous Boris bike, or rather, the 'Santander Cycle', Newcastle has officially joined the transport team.

The 'Mobike' scheme will see an initial 1,000 of the bright orange and silver bikes around the city centre in October, with the number only expected to increase. The scheme is also extremely easy to use, as as long as you own a mobile phone, all you need to do is download the Mobike app and sign up.

You can rent these cycles and drop them off from various rack stations across the city centre and all the way up to Arthur's Hill in the west, Chillingham Road to the east, and Jesmond Dene Road to the north of the city, only to name a few.

Third year Kate told the Tab, "this new Mobike scheme will be great as a way of saving money, especially for students. Not only this, but it will be a good way to keep fit and healthy too. I will definitely be using Mobike."
