Two more men have been arrested during an investigation of a rape in Knoll Court

The total number of suspects has risen to four after further investigation

Following two arrests last week, two further arrests were made on Wednesday over an alleged rape incident that happened at the student accommodation on Melbourne Street in Newcastle, in the early hours of last Friday. Rape detectives have questioned the two men over the alleged attack.

The men, both 18 years of age, have been arrested in connection with the incident that was reported to have been at Knoll Court student flats last week.

Police arrived at the block of flats around 3 am on Friday after a passer-by had called the police upon hearing the distressing sounds coming from the block, before coming to the woman’s aid. Northumbria Police are appealing for more information after the woman had told them she had been raped.

Two men were initially held, however, the number of suspects has risen to four following the latest two arrests. The four men, who have all now been released under further investigation, have not been named.

A spokesman for Northumbria Police stated: “An investigation into the rape is ongoing. The victim is currently receiving support from specialist officers in Northumbria Police’s Safeguarding Department. Extra officers have been in the area of Knoll Court carrying out enquiries into the rape and to reassure anyone who has any concerns.

“If you have information that could help police then contact police.”
