Newcastle is top uni in the north east for student experience according to the Good University Guide 2018

As always, got our priorities sorted

Newcastle places as the top university in the northeast for student experience according to the Times Good University Guide 2018, which is a given.

In the new tables, seen first by the Tab, Newcastle is also the only university in the northeast to receive a gold award in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF). The TEF panel reported it was impressed by the ‘exceptional’ support provided for the students and tailored support for disabled students as well.

Nightlife and education- Newcastle are striking the perfect balance.

People seem to be catching on that the Toon is the place to be as uni applications have risen by 6.3 per cent- the biggest increase countrywide. As well as the nightlife, new degrees including pharmacy, and sport and exercise science are pulling in students, as well as a general trend of increase in applicants for the past decade.

In 2015 almost a quarter of the intake of undergraduates was from independent schools- similar to Newcastle’s neighbour Durham. In an attempt to be more inclusive of students from all backgrounds, schemes are in place to try and draw new people in from around the country.

This year we’ve been splashing the cash on our campus to expand for all those people wanting to join in the fun up north. This includes a brand new student village, an extension to the sports facility and a handful of new educational facilities for research in science. Going all out.
