Newcastle axe-wielding ‘Killer Clown’ jailed

He’s the first to be jailed in relation to the craze

An axe-wielding clown has been jailed for six months by Newcastle Crown court following his threatening of a pregnant woman with an axe in South Shields.

The woman was approached by the assailant the day before Halloween as she walked with her partner. The court heard that he banged his axe on the ground in front of the couple. The woman, not to be intimidated, threw a brick at the assailant forcing him to flee the scene.

Jailing him for six months, Recorder Jamie Hill said “Carrying a real axe and threatening innocent people goes beyond anything that is acceptable at Halloween”. The defendant, Michael March, aged 18, is the first to be jailed nationally in relation to the ‘killer clown craze’ that proliferated the country last year following internet popularity.

Newcastle student Charlie Birch says “I’m glad people realise that this is beyond a joke, it’s creepy”.

Here’s hoping that the ‘killer clown craze’ is another bad memory of 2016 that remains there.
