A Newcastle first year has died after ‘excessive’ drinking

The 20-year-old man died yesterday

Police have confirmed that a 20-year-old man died at the RVI hospital on Wednesday 14th December. A spokesman for Northumbria Police said that initial enquiries suggest the man’s condition was linked to consuming excessive amounts of alcohol.

Newcastle University said: “It is with deep sadness we can confirm the death of one of our students. At the family’s request, we have nothing further to add at this time.”

A Northumbria Police spokesman told The Tab: “At 5:45am on Tuesday, December 13, we received a report from the RVI hospital of a man who was brought to hospital in a life threatening condition.

“Initial enquiries suggested that the man’s condition was a result of consuming excessive amounts of alcohol. On Wednesday, December 14, the 20-year-old man sadly died while in hospital.

“The investigation into his death has been passed to the coroner and we are assisting them with their enquiries. We are also supporting the man’s family at this difficult time.”
