A body has been found after a fire took ahold of the Kard Bar on Cross Street just before 9am yesterday morning.

Heart News are reporting the body may be that of  81-year-old Brian Sandells. Although no formal identification has yet taken place.

Fire fighters and police were aware there was a person that had been unaccounted for but were unsure if there was anyone left in the building.

Emergency services were unable to go inside the premises on Cross Street until this morning.

A search dog was used to help find the body of the person inside the building which was engulfed by flames.

The Chronicle reported that the body was located among the debris towards the rear of the premises.

Buildings around the fire were evacuated and around 80 students spent the night in temporary accommodation.

Firefighters will remain at the scene to examine the rest of the structure before any further action can be taken.
