Newcastle University soars in the league tables

And we’re more employable than Oxford

This independent annual league table organisation has placed Newcastle as the 20th best university in the UK, moving two places higher than last year’s position of 22nd.

University officials will be pleased with this result as the rise in rankings continue to improve. The steady increase from the rank of 29th to 20th since 2011 can be partially attributed to recent efforts by the university to improve teaching standards, as well as receiving the highest amount to date of £120m in research income.

Doing well in recent years

There is a long way to go to the top however, with universities such as York, Bristol and Exeter standing in our way of being side by side with Oxbridge. If Newcastle carries on with its consistent performance than it could be seen as a possibility in a few years to come.

On a wider platform, Newcastle has also been named in the top 1% of worldwide universities, ranking 127th in the QS Top Universities rankings, two positions higher than last year’s rank of 129th.

Ranked 20th best university in the UK

These league tables are made up of various elements, varying from student satisfaction surveys, to graduate prospects on graduation, and even the quality of research that the university produces.

Newcastle University students will also be happy to see that they ranked 12th overall with regards to graduate prospects. This was two places higher than the University of Oxford’s position at 14th. Well, better luck next time fellas.

With another year of success from all aspects of the league tables, I’m pretty sure that students as well as staff will be pleased with the results.
