Newcastle student dies on Morocco trip

Tributes paid as friends mourn the loss of beloved Newcastle student, Luke Sewell.


A first year Newcastle Maths student has passed away on a trip in Morocco.

Luke Sewell had suffered a fall a couple of days earlier in the early hours of Monday morning.

The full details of the accident are not yet known and a police investigation is currently under way.

Luke, from Cheshire, came to Newcastle in 2011 to study Chemical Engineering before changing to a Mathematics and Statistics course in 2013.

NUSU President Calum Mackenzie told The Courier: “I know I speak on behalf of the whole student body at Newcastle in conveying our deepest condolences to Luke’s family and close friends at this difficult time.

“He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.”
