Bio-meh: examiners cba to proofread exam

Outrage as second year biomedicine exam is ritten wromg

| UPDATED exclusive

Panic broke out in Turbine Hall yesterday as biomed students came face to face with an exam paper riddled with spelling mistakes and nonsense questions.

In the embarrassing mishap, biomed profs showed an inability to proofread or even use spellcheck – a skill that many of us were taught shortly after leaving nursery.

At least the cover was spelt correctly

And the hall descended into absolute chaos thanks to the cock up – the paper contained so many spelling mistakes and ridiculous questions that the invigilators had to interrupt the exam multiple times to translate some of the misspelt words, and even to announce which questions were not worth answering.

You’re going to need it

According to students who sat the exam, some multiple choice questions had answers that were completely unrelated to the question and random capitals were dotted throughout the paper (whicH is aCtuaLly more oFf-putting tHan yoU’d thInk).

Tthe first letter of every question was also typed twice (Ccausing words such as Gglycolipid and Pphospholypid to look a bit alien to even the smartest among us). And some questions were even interrupted with an entirely different new sentence.

The scene of the crime

To add insult to injury, an extra replacement exam has been added to biomed students’ timetables on the 22nd. After the humiliating blunder, an email explaining that an optional re-sit was being considered was circulated to students.

One second-year biomedicine student told The Tab: “It’s upsetting that the university doesn’t understand we don’t feel like the hours of revision we put in are worth it, when they couldn’t spend ten minutes reading over a paper.”

And students were understandably unhappy about the resit: “They just put it on our timetable, stressing everyone out before they emailed us to say it’s just an idea at the moment.”

Another student said: “It is appalling that such a terrible paper could have reached this stage, especially in an exam that is worth 90% of the module.”

Funnier when it’s not actually in your exam paper

Even more embarrassingly, this isn’t the first time biomed students have had to put up with carelessly organised exams – last term a practical exam was discounted due to numerous mistakes.

Let’s all just count ourselves lucky that the fees have increased to £9,000 – maybe with all that extra money the biomedical school can upgrade to Windows 8.1 as apparently it has autocorrect.
