Crowds drawn in for RAG Fashion Show

Models sport clothing from nationwide and independent retailers as part of GLADRAGS Fashion Show.

Over 150 guests were in attendance on Thursday night’s GLADRAGS Fashion Show, which showcased clothing from various high-street names, as well as independent designers and boutiques.

Taking place in NUSU’s Venue, the show supported Smarty Pants, the Association for International Cancer Research’s (AICR) new awareness campaign, and all proceeds are being donated to this charity. Smarty Pants representative Yasmin Burtally, who promotes the cause to students nationwide, was in attendance, together with ambassadors from each clothing source.

The model line-up was a mixture of male and female Newcastle University students, and the evening consisted of ten walks separated by live performances from singers and dancers, including input from Newcastle University Dance Society.

Jack Wills and Officers Club were among the clothing contributors, as well as local, independent retailers Chateau Boutique, who hand-made dresses especially for the show, and Love Niche, headed by Nisha Vedhara. Local brand Lancelot-Knight provided satchels for the walks, and Ann Summers was responsible for the rather skimpy female underwear walk, which, alongside male models sporting skin-tight briefs, certainly got the crowd going!

Goody bags were sponsored by Unilever, who, together with Jack Wills, Propercorn and Vita Coco Coconut Water, provided treats for the bags, and a pair of Smarty Pants were included. Krispy Kreme doughnuts also gave doughnuts for the event at a discounted price, and Newcastle-based cocktail company Mixing Magic provided cocktails, with a 50p per drink going to the charity.

RAG Officer and organiser, Elinor Thomas, told The Tab: ‘I’m really pleased with the support that so many people showed last night by coming along to watch, and it’s great to support local designers. Last night marked the continuing success of RAG’s events, and I hope RAG Week in January will be just as good!’
