Feminist Society take on CCTV

Members label the infamous booth as “misogynistic”.

| UPDATED exclusive

The Newcastle University Feminist Society are campaigning against CCTV, claiming it is “misogynistic”.

In a draft motion members of the society say that videos from the booth “show girls in provocative and sexual positions” and that it may put girls off applying to Newcastle University.

FemSoc members claim that since the Student’s Union logo is often displayed in CCTV videos, it seem as if they are backing any booth based shenanigans.

Pictures like this could be embarrassing in the future.

And they’ve slammed the popular videos claiming they damage future careers, since footage goes online and can be viewed by potential employers.

Members are also concerned that the booth can “portray girls as sexual objects” which may put girls off attending events organised by the Union.

Often boys can make a bigger idiot of themselves than girls.

CCTV also encourages “lad culture” which “students are trying to stamp out”, according to the draft motion.
