Council ruin freshers’ fun

Hundreds of students miss out on Example gig due to last minute venue change

Many students missed the opportunity to see Example after Newcastle’s Students’ Union was forced to move the performance from outdoors to the indoor stage.

The final event of freshers week was interrupted when Newcastle City Council revoked the event’s licence 15 minutes before Example was set to perform.

Due to a change of venue and capacity restraints, only 2000 of the university’s freshers were able to watch the performance, leaving many disappointed.

Freshers’ week organisers quickly came to the rescue with a silent disco for those who didn’t make it in to the event.

Organisers have issued a statement apologising for the problem which was reportedly “out of their hands”, and have ensured that they are currently “working hard behind the scenes to find a solution”.

The freshers’ wristbands, costing £65 each, guaranteed entry into all the weeks events, not just Example’s performance.

First year student Rachael Boucher, who did manage to see the act, told us: “It was really good once we got in, but it took ages to be sorted”.

Many angry students took to Twitter to vent their anger about the venue change.

After the event, Example tweeted:

Despite all this angst, many people were extremely happy with the outcome of the event.

Freshers, count yourselves lucky – we spent £70 on our wristbands to see the three fatties from S Club 7.
