Newcastle top for nightlife

Which? survey ranks northern unis best for partying

Newcastle has been ranked amongst the best unis in the country for great nightlife.

The Which? survey found universities in the north of England and Scotland ranked higher than those in the South for partying.

Eight universities in the north of England and Scotland were among the top-rated by students for their diverse nightlife in terms of pubs, clubs and music venues.

These included Newcastle, Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool. The only university in the south of England to make it into this top group was Sussex.

The site, offering information for students, teamed up with YouthSight to interview 8,053 students at UK universities to reveal best campuses for the arts, sport, nightlife and politics.

Newcastle was also rated highly for its  varied student union activities , shown to cater for differing student interests with its large array of societies and clubs and  of course favourite SU night ‘CCTV’. Dundee and Sheffield were also among the top.

However, despite winning the Stan Calvert Cup 6 years in a row, Newcastle lost out to rivals Northumbria for best sporting Universities.

University College London, University of Birmingham, University of Glasgow and University of Leeds were the only universities to score well across the board for nearly all categories.
