Trial dates set for teenager accused of killing Luke O’Connor in Fallowfield

The trial has been scheduled for April next year


Shiloh George Pottinger, the teenager accused of stabbing 19-year-old student Luke O’Connor, has appeared in Manchester Crown Court yesterday. Pottinger has been charged with the murder of the MMU student, as well as possession of a bladed article.

Pottinger appeared only to confirm his name via prison video link at this preliminary hearing. No pleas were entered at this time.

In court, Judge Dean KC told Pottinger: “Today’s hearing is what is called a preliminary hearing, and it is literally that. 

“On Friday, January 13, there will be a further hearing in this case. At that hearing, you will be expected to enter pleas to the charges of murder and possession of a bladed article.”

Further trial dates have been set. Pottinger will be remanded in custody until the scheduled trial for 24th April 2023.

Luke was stabbed to death as he returned home from a party on 26th October. Officers were called to the incident on Wilmslow Road in Fallowfield at around 2am. CPR was commenced at the scene. Luke tragically passed away later in hospital as a result of his injuries.

Paying tribute to Luke, his family said: “Our lively, bubbly, beautiful boy has been taken from us and our family are now left with a hole in our hearts that will never be filled. Justice needs to be served as we have lost our beautiful young Luke, who was robbed of life.

“We will continue to honour his name for as long as we are all here, and his legacy with go on forever.”

Luke’s family have asked for privacy at this time.
