The Ivy in Manchester is on fire

Fire engines are putting the blaze out


A fire has broken out at the Ivy in Hardman Square in Manchester city centre. Fire engines have been called. Everyone is out and accounted for.

A spokesperson from Manchester Fire told Manchester Evening News: "We were called at 4:56pm to 4 Hardman Square to reports the fire garden is on fire on the fourth floor which may have spread to the side of the building".

A video posted by on Twitter shows smoke billowing from the side of the building.

Paul Blaze, who was based opposite the Ivy at the time of the incident, said: "It looks like there's an outside balcony area that is absolutely ablaze. It looked like it was dropping down to lower floors. It grabbed hold very quickly from nothing, within ten minutes it was ablaze".

According to BBC North West, it is understood the fire started in a patio heater on the roof garden of the Hardman Square building.
