A man has been attacked outside a Manchester nightclub

He is in a serious but stable condition

| UPDATED

A man has been left with serious head injuries after being attacked outside Bijou nightclub in Salford last night.

Police and paramedics were called to Chapel Street at 4:10am, after reports of an assault, leaving a 31-year-old with serious head injuries. The club was subsequently shut down, with Chapel Street also closed in both directions whilst police investigated the incident.

The victim was taken to hospital where he is reported to be in a serious but stable condition.

Detective Chief Inspector Elizabeth Hopkinson said: “This was a particularly nasty assault, during which this victim sustained serious head injuries which at first were thought to be life threatening.

“Fortunately that is no longer the case, but that should take nothing away from the severity of this attack.

“We believe this attack took place inside the nightclub, and that means that there will surely be witnesses who may be able to assist us with our investigation. I would like anyone who may have been in the nightclub at the time, or believes they may have seen something to come forward and help us bring this attacker to justice.”

If you have any information regarding the attack, please call police on 101, quoting incident number 170417/423 or phone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

The Tab Manchester have contacted The Bijou Club for comment.

UPDATE: Police originally reported the attack had involved an axe, but later said they were now “uncertain what weapon was used, if at all, and who may have attacked the victim.”
