Gino D’Acampo has spoken: Manchester is officially cooler than London

North: 1 South: 0

Celebrity chef, all round legend and adorable Italian authority on all things cool, Gino D’Acampo has finally settled the great North v South debate.

He went on record today to say: “People are cooler here [Manchester] than London, I’ve always wanted to be a Mancunian”.

What better validation is there? He definitely must have visited Fallowfield.

Gino made the remarks whilst overseeing the opening of his new prosecco bar, ingeniously named My Prosecco Bar. It’s inside his Corn Exchange eatery, Gino D’Acampo – My Restaurant. We’re noticing a pattern here.

He gushed about Manny even further, explaining why he chose this city to start his My Restaurant chain: “I love Manchester, I’ve always wanted to be a Mancunian somehow. I think it’s very cool. I came here to Manchester about twenty years ago and I’ve always thought that’s a cool place.”

His Prosecco bar sounds pretty cool too, serving more than forty different kinds of fizz and fine wine, as well as cocktails and Italian craft beers. Even better, between 4 – 6:30pm everyday is “aperitivo time”, which basically means free cicchetti snacks when you buy drinks.

He’s complimentary about our city AND he’s giving us free food. Clearly because he loves us – he even said: “They say that Manchester people, they’re cold because the weather is cold. It’s not true! I’ve always had a great reception when I come here.”

We love you too, Gino. Please stay. So there you have it. All hail Gino.

Sit down London, we’re just so much cooler than you.
