A man and woman have died in a house fire in Withington

And there are four children in hospital


A fire on Parsonage Road last night killed a man and a woman and has left four children in hospital.

Firefighters, police and paramedics were called to the house at 2.20am this morning. It took several hours to put out the flames.

A man and woman died at the scene and four children and another man were taken to hospital in a serious condition, however their specific injuries are unknown.

It is reported that the fire was concentrated at the back of the semi-detached house in Withington. There is a hole in the roof and tarpaulin covering a window.

The police and fire service are in the process of investigating the cause of the fire.

Superintendent Mark Kenny said the blaze was “a tragic incident.”

He added, “I urge anyone who may have witnessed the fire, or anyone in the area in the hours before the fire.

“If you have any information at all contact police as soon as possible so we can piece together what happened.”
