How long does it take for a fresher to go totally fallowfield?

‘We love the sesh’

Half way through week three and the freshers are starting to settle in. They’ve made every mistake a Manchester student makes (buying 90p shots at Fifth’s 90s night will never end well). They’ve all bought a pair of Nikes and bomber jackets. Some have managed to discover the student dream deals: New Zealand wines 2 bottles for £5, and to finish off the night, pizza, chips and a drink for £2.99 at Chesters. Many still won’t have managed to make a 9am lecture (thank God for podcasts).

We interviewed a few to see how they’re getting on:

Oli Lockett

Worst thing you’ve done so far?

Poured milk over my friend while he was asleep.

How has your style changed?

I’ve become Joe Muir: he’s my idol.

Worst thing about uni?

Shit wifi in halls for Netflix, and other things…

Best club night?

Warehouse

Place you want to go to in Manchester?

Fifth because it sounds so shit it might be a laugh.

Advice to other students?

Don’t bring a telly to uni.

Charlie Crawford

Worst thing you’ve done so far?

Chundered in my own bed while I was asleep.

How has your style changed?

I’ve stuck to wearing flip flops and shorts as much as I can.

Best thing about uni?

Meeting new people, and drinking. A lot.

Worst thing?

The work.

Best club night?

Antwerp.

Morgan Taylor

Worst thing you’ve done so far?

Cried for 4 hours straight on a comedown in a strangers bed.

How has your style changed since you’d come to uni?

Washing has become a luxury and so wearing the same trackies three days in a row is the new norm.

Best thing about uni?

Solitude.

Worst thing?

Solitude.

Best club?

Antwerp mansion.

How many lectures have you actually been to?

Been physically present in all my lectures, mentally present in far less.

Any places you want to go and visit in Manchester?

Afflecks Palace.

Emily Tandy

Worst thing you’ve done so far?

Going out before a 9am lecture, it’s just a bad idea.

How has your style changed?

Surprisingly, not much. I guess I’m a little bolder in what I wear, but I usually did my own thing at home anyway, so it hasn’t been much of a change.

Best thing about uni?

I love living more independently, even though it can be a pain at times and I am really enjoying my course so far, it’s good to confirm that I made the right choices now that I’m here

Worst thing?

9am lectures. And the state of my flat’s kitchen, why can no one do their washing up?

Best club night?

Either my first night out with my flat in 42s, or my first night out with some people on my course at Deansgate.

How many lectures have you actually been to?

I’ve actually been to all of them so far, despite being down with freshers flu for the last couple of weeks.

Place you want to go to in Manchester?

I still haven’t been to the Northern Quarter, so I would like to have a look around there soon.

Advice to other students?

Make the most of all the opportunities during freshers, especially all the free stuff, it doesn’t last.

Jack Scanlon

Worst thing you’ve done so far?

Had half a crate of beer poured over my carpet.

How has your style changed?

I’m about as edgy as you get now.

Best thing about uni?

The sesh, and tower, but mainly the sesh.

Worst thing?

Forgetting to lock my bedroom door. Yes I was the guy who got milk poured over him.

Best club night?

Antwerp Mansion.

How many lectures have you actually been to?

Fuck all because I’m a legend.

Advice to other students?

Love the sesh. You’ve just gotta love the sesh.

Clemmie Rampley

Worst thing you’ve done so far?

Throwing up in a bucket with Oli Lockett, we had the same friend holding both our hair back.

How has your style changed?

I’m still a roadman.

Best thing about uni?

The sesh.

Worst thing?

Getting up for breakfast at tower.

Best club night?

Antwerp or Warehouse.

Place you want to go to in Manchester?

Bingo night.

Advice to other students?

Don’t spend all your money in the first few days.
