Manchester ranked in the top one per cent of unis in the world

Met came in 871st place

According to a new list by the Centre for World University Rankings,  Manchester is the sixth best uni in the UK. Beaten only by Oxbridge and a few in London we’re sitting pretty near the top of a 25,000 strong table of degree awarding institutions.

Aside from being top 10 in the UK, we were also ranked 61st in the world, putting us firmly in the top 0.5 per cent of the world’s unis.

The ranking takes into account the usual list of factors including quality of teaching, alumni employment and academic citations as well as a score for “broad impact”.

This puts us ahead of Southampton, Leeds, Sheffield and pretty much every other uni in the world. Meanwhile, across town, Met just about scraped into the rankings, landing at a less than respectable 871.

Earlier this year, QS ranked Manchester the 33rd best uni in the world and the 7th best place to study Development studies.
