Opening details and location revealed for Manchester’s first cat cafe

‘We’re ready to go, we’ve got all the cats – all we need now is the keys’

The long awaited opening of Manchester’s first cat cafe is finally approaching, ten lucky cats have been selected and the owners are almost ready to open.

The cafe is set to open in June and customers will be able to enjoy cakes and cuddles with their new feline friends as well as snapchatting the whole experience as the cafe will offer free wifi, computer, TV and video games.

Sisters Sarah and Ellie Close are just awaiting approval from the council in order to open their unique cafe on the High Street in the Northern Quarter.

After the advert for “cat nannies” went viral, the sisters received a staggering 2,500 applications for the sought after position. They will be interviewing candidates over the next few weeks.

“It was absolutely mental. We had to shut it after a week because we just couldn’t cope with it”, said Ellie.

“We were getting applications from as far away as Brazil and people contacting us about how to get visas”.

The concept of a cat themed cafe was initiated in Japan in the 1990’s before coming to Europe, with many cafes of this ilk appearing in Paris, London and Edinburgh.
