MacBook stolen from second year’s bag in Simon building

She said there were four laptops stolen yesterday

A second year biomed student had her laptop stolen out of her bag yesterday in the Simon Building.

Biomed student Beth Kersse had her MacBook stolen whilst she ate lunch today in the Simon Building.

Second year Beth had her backpack by her feet at lunch today, but when she went to leave, she realised that her bag was a lot lighter than she remembered.

On opening her bag to check, she noticed her laptop was no longer in her bag.

Second year Beth had her laptop stolen yesterday

She told The Tab: “I take my laptop everywhere with me, even when I go to the toilet or take a phone call in the library.

“I can’t believe it and I don’t understand how it happened.

“I was sat eating lunch opposite my friends and my bag was at my feet, I didn’t even see anyone come close or feel them go into my bag.

“I feel so violated because I was literally just sat there, it’s really scary.”

When she realised her laptop was missing, she immediately got in touch with campus security and spoke to the staff in the Simon Building café, who told her that two people had already mentioned having their laptops stolen earlier today.

Beth also discovered later that the same had happened to another friend.

She said: “It’s really shit because I’m writing a second year dissertation at the moment and it wasn’t backed up.

“I had a deadline this afternoon but I’ve not been able to submit my work because it’s now gone with my laptop.

“I’m lucky because I’ve got insurance so I should get a new laptop and my lecturers have been understanding and given be extensions on my work.”

Unfortunately, the café has no CCTV so the uni are unable to check to see any suspicious behaviour.

The Tab have contacted the uni, but no one was available to comment.
