A man was violently assaulted outside Antwerp Mansion in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The 36-year-old was slashed in the neck just off Curry Mile with an “unknown sharp instrument”, and is currently in a critical condition in hospital.

The attack happened around 3.30 am after two men were seen arguing near the popular club on Rusholme Grove.

Detective Sergeant John Robb from Longsight said: “This man has suffered a very serious injury to his neck.

“At this stage we do not know what the weapon was, but it has caused a deep laceration in his neck and he is currently in hospital.

“While the night club had closed we believe there were still several people around at the time of the offence and we are urging these people to come forward and tell us what they saw.”

Police are appealing for information and witnesses.
