Man falls to his death from seven-storey Oxford Road car park

He plunged from the roof of the building last night

A man has died after falling from a car park on Oxford Road.

He plunged from the seventh storey of the NCP car park near the Palace Theatre at 7.30pm yesterday evening.

Police and ambulance were called to the junction with Portland Street following reports of a man on the roof.

The man, thought to be in his early thirties, fell moments later.

Chemical Engineer student Archie Villiers-Stuart was walking back from uni and witnessed the horrific incident.

“I heard all the police sirens and a scream and turned the corner on to Oxford Road just after he jumped.

“When I passed the scene I could see from Tesco paramedics were trying to resuscitate him and police trying to keep people back.”

The details of what exactly happened are still unclear.

The road was blocked off until the police and emergency services had dealt with the aftermath of the incident.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “We had a report at 7.30pm of a man on the roof of a building. Unfortunately, the male has fallen from the building and has been taken to hospital.”
