Squirrels Comedy Club is actually pretty funny

Steve Bugeja made us laugh a lot

Do you like to laugh at peoples’ tales of love, debauchery, humiliation and embarrassment? Of course you do.

Forget pricey tickets for real venues and £4 pints in the interval, there’s a brilliant event right on your door step for free.

Running since 2011, and now called Manchester University Campus Comedy Club, the night is held by several halls of residence bars around campus throughout the year.

Each night hosted by regular compére Steve Bugeja, a man who is in his own right an award winning comedian and former Manchester University student, consistently brings a host of great acts.

Last week’s freshers’ special featured Russel Kane playing two shows a night to packed out crowds and was a resounding success.

Previous guests have included big names like Jack Whitehall, James Acaster, Matt Forde and Sean Walsh. All with the benefit of halls bars, so cheap drinks!

Usual comedy rules apply – you don’t want to be the one who goes to the toilet mid set or has their phone go off. Under no circumstances fall asleep in the second row, the results will be horrendous for you and hilarious for the 200 other people watching.

So if you fancy some first class stand up comedy without paying a penny then check out the campus comedy club, at Squirrels Bar, Hulme Hall and Whitworth Park every couple of weeks.
