Manchester named fifth most romantic city in the UK

Forget Paris – we’ve flirted our way to become the romance capital of the North

Manchester has been named as the fifth most romantic city in the UK.

According to the software firm Postcode Anywhere, Manchester has been named as the lovesick capital of the North – and we’ve flirted our way to the top ahead of Newcastle and Sheffield.

And it looks like we’re a generous bunch – the ranking is based on the amount of money spent in cities online on presents in the lead up to Valentine’s Day.

Paz: one of the most romantic men in Manchester

Canterbury came out on top in the poll, and they’ve been shelling out the most on jewellery.

Lovebirds in Leeds are most likely to buy chocolate for their partner while the southern softies in London spent the most on flowers.

But it all comes as no surprise. Student couples swarmed the streets on Friday and Fallowfield legend Paz got all romantic. It’s been a smug Valentine’s in Manchester all round.

Cute

Who knew students were organised enough to plan in advance? Or could be bothered to spend money on their other half?
