Woman’s face set on fire by flaming Sambuca

A woman has suffered severe burns after a shot exploded in her face on a night out in the Northern Quarter.

A 24-year-old woman has been left with severe burns to her cheeks, forehead and chest after her drink exploded at a Northern Quarter bar.

Staff at Lola’s Bar were forced to call 999 in the early hours of Sunday morning, when they noticed that her head had been engulfed by flames.

The bar offers “a chance to make your own cocktails and learn about the history of each… even play with fire!”

The victim has since been treated at Wythenshawe Hospital’s burns unit.

A spokesperson for the bar said: “We have been trading for many years and have never had another incident such as this and we have revisited our health and safety procedures once again to prevent this type of freak accident from happening again.”
