Sport Exec campaigner Thomson received 12 hour campaign ban

All due to a Facebook slip up

Luke Thomson was banned from using social media for 12 hours after breaching a specific pre-campaigning rule.

Last night, it was revealed on LCR by the elections chair, Kushal Shah, that Thomson would be banned from using Facebook from 9pm until 9am this morning.

Shah said: “[Thomson] changed the name of his page from last year and in doing so it notified whoever liked that page, therefore informing them of his theme this year and breaching the pre campaigning rule.”

Shah continued, and said a breach like this last year resulted in a full ban from campaigning from the live launch until the following morning, obviously having a detrimental affect on the student’s chances to win over the student body.

The candidates running for exec this year were revealed earlier than previous years, so the impact of Thomson’s actions were considered less serious, ultimately resulting in a shorter campaign ban where he was banned from using any form of social media for 12 hours.

This also included sharing his manifesto, video, and any other form of campaigning propaganda.

This was the only punishment that Thomson will receive as Shah concluded with: “But he is able to take a part in the Poster Dash and go on a night out as normal. “
