LSU sends out golden tickets to successful freshers

Hold your breath, make a wish, count to three

Today jubilant freshers received news of their offers to study at Loughborough in golden envelopes.

The luxurious letters contained photo frames, which successful applicants were encouraged to use for selfies, as part of the #LboroWinners campaign.

But the connotations of the glamorous invites were a mistake – the Willy Wonka Style envelopes were an “unintended consquence” of the Uni’s marketing efforts.

I’ve got a golden ticket

Celebratory new entrants received their letters through the post.

A spokesperson for Loughborough University said: “The #LboroWinner campaign is a continuation of last year’s efforts to reach out and engage our new entrants, and make them feel part of the Loughborough family.

“The letters were sent to all our applicant who received offers to study at Loughborough, including international students.

“They contained a photo frame, which entrants were encouraged to use to post selfies with the #LboroWinners.

“So far we have had over 1300 responses.

“The golden Charlie and the Chocolate Factory style invites were a completely unintended consequence of the campaign.”

Jenna, an Economics and Management fresher, from Belfast, said: “I got it today and thought it was so cool, like Willy Wonka’s golden ticket.

“If I didn’t get my results last year I would’ve been even more pumped, still, it made me super excited for starting Uni.

“It was definitely the best thing I’ve ever received in the post, especially because I don’t ever get sent anything, it’s so much better than an email.”

Alisia Heslop, a Fine Art fresher, said: “It was pretty special, I made friends over Facebook with people who got tickets.

Tanicah St Louis, a Sociology with Criminology fresher, said: “The ticket arrived this morning, it was a nice surprise as I had an unconditional offer which I received earlier this year.

“It was nice to be involved in the results day hype.”
