Fun police set to lure us with chocolate and lollies if we’re too rowdy

Steer clear

Prickly neighbourhood jobsworths have joined forces with street marshals to tackle noisy undergrads.

A Student Support Scheme has been made in a hope to cull noisy and anti-social behaviour and it will cost the uni thousands.

Students will be cherry picked for security training and will begin patrolling and monitoring Ashby Road, Radmoor Road and Westfield Drive in a non-confrontational manner, giving away chocolate and lollies to rowdy revellers.

After there was a call for a street marshalling scheme last year, instead they have opted for security-trained students hoping this will work in a friendlier manner.

This pilot scheme will cost £3,245 which the uni are having to cough up.

Ted Parton, a member of the council who represents the Southfields ward, informed the Loughborough Echo that seven students patrolled the streets on Friday 27th March and that they will do this again on Wednesday 29th April and Friday 1st May.

He said: “If it doesn’t work, I will be campaigning for a full street marshal scheme.”

We don’t even drink…

A spokeswoman for the uni said that the university are happy that Loughborough Students Street Support is taking place, in the hope that this positively influences students as well as reducing nuisance.

She said: “Options for a more permanent solution will be considered.”
