Loughborough bores introduce no smoking zones on campus

You’re toking the piss

Rule book enthusiasts  have designated certain areas on campus as No Smoking Zones.

These joyless zones have been established to reduce the impacts of active and passive smoking by the Health, Safety and Environment Committee

It is also an attempt to reduce the amount of fag litter in “high traffic areas”.

Would-be smokers can now gather like soulless zombies in the designated smoking shelters dotted around campus.

Those who do not comply to the rules will “be dealt with through the usual disciplinary procedures. In addition those who do not comply with the law in this respect may be liable to fixed penalty fines and possible prosecution.”

Smoker Helen Stone, a student at Loughborough, said: “I don’t understand why they have clamped down on smoking so harshly.Loughborough is a sports university and the proportion of smokers to non-smokers is not high.”

The university smoking policy also states that all members of staff are encouraged to be “considerate of the university’s reputation” by not smoking in visible locations.
