Reveller suspended as part of anti-social behaviour crackdown

Student caught climbing locked gate on a local’s personal CCTV.

| UPDATED anti-social behaviour student suspension

Freshers has only just begun and already a student has felt the wrath of the new disciplinary measures implemented by the university.

The student, who cannot be identified, was punished for a number of offences surrounding anti-social behavior. These offences included climbing the gate at Ashleigh Drive beyond lock-up time.

Gotcha.. a picture from the resident’s CCTV camera

Due to a number of complaints from disgruntled local residents about the drunken antics of students, the university limited access to Ashleigh Drive and the Falkner Eggington gates beyond 10:30pm.

At a recent meeting of the Storer and Ashby Road Residents’ Group (SARG), Richard Taylor, chief operating officer at the uni told the group, how previously action against problem students had been too slow.

In this meeting, Taylor said that some cases took over 60 days to take affect, highlighting the rapidity of the ongoing case.

He added that last year there was a total of 14 major incidents and 206 minor incidents and listed the number of punishments dished out to the more rowdy among us.

The gate in question

The Epinal spoke to a student living in Falk-Egg this year:

“I hear rumours about them complaining about our noise and see the occasional news article shared about it but I don’t give it much thought. I don’t really care too much about it – it sounds bad to say but that’s just how halls are.”

“The committee care loads and want to find a resolution.”

Community Development Officer, Ellie Gyaurova also spoke to The Epinal:

“The Union does its best to ensure that students and locals have a good relationship, but unfortunately it is one off cases like this that usually tend to capture the attention of the residents.

“I think it is important that we consider everything that students do and try to remember how much they contribute to the Loughborough community, whether it is through Action, Rag, or other various projects and initiatives they take part in.”

Looks pretty rowdy

Remind us, who was it that chose to live in a university town?
