UCL jumps eight places on the Guardian University Guide

The Guardian released its university guide of best UK universities for 2021. UCL has risen eight places from 22nd to 14th in the past 12 months placing it as the 2nd best University in London behind Imperial College who ranked 9th.

The Guardian table, unlike other league tables, is comprised of what they describe as ‘what matters most to young people’. They use the following factors to quantify the success of UK institutions: How well will you be taught?; Do current students rate their course highly?; Which university provides the best chance of getting a good job?. The table also takes into consideration the National Student Survey, Class sizes and personal student feedback from each institution. Every university is then awarded a score out of 100 and is ranked against other universities across the country.

The Guardian scored each university on nine different categories: satisfied with course, satisfied with teaching, satisfied with feedback, satisfied with staff ratio, spend per student, average entry tariff, value-added score, career after 15 months and continuation. UCL scored very well coming out with an overall score of 70.1 coming just behind Edinburgh’s 70.9.

UCL also ranked highly for individual subjects coming 2nd in the country for Law.  They also ranked in the top 10 for Anthropology (5th), Classics (6th), Geography (6th), History of Art (6th) and Psychology (6th).

UCL also beat Royal Holloway coming in 32nd, Kings coming in 42nd and UAL coming in 45th.
