Stormzy did a surprise gig in Camden today
And it was completely free
Earlier this morning, Stormzy did what any UK grime artist would do on the release date of their debut album: Tweeted a place and time to be for a surprise set in London.
At 1pm today, Stormzy showed up at Castlehaven Park in Camden to perform for completely free. His new album ‘Gang Signs & Prayer’ was also released today, with stars like Ed Sheeran and Adele showing their support for it on Twitter earlier this morning.
Despite it being a last minute announcement, hundreds of fans showed up to see the surprise set:
… for which Stormzy seemed chuffed, saying the turnout was “crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy”.
Even though the set was only short, Stormzy performed a few songs for his fans, including the old favourite ‘Shut Up’, his most well-known single.
The gig was especially convenient for UCL students, what with Camden being so close to uni and the likely place for student housing.
Since he only performed a couple of tracks, it was more or less a glorified lunch break. Not bad for a Friday afternoon.
Wanna see him? Looks like he’s heading for Piccadilly next….
