Protestors burn Rex Knight effigy on Euston viaduct

They were protesting against rent and censorship

| UPDATED

A demonstration against rent prices and censorship took place last night which resulted in a stuffed version of Vice Provost, Rex Knight, being set alight right outside Warren Street station.

Protestors began to congregate in the quad at six o’clock as red flares were released from the top of Portico. The demonstration then departed on to Gower Street, heading left towards Torrington Place, where it took up the entire road heading down Gordon Street, back through Malet Place, right on to Torrington Place once more and straight down Tottenham Court Road. Tunes along the way featured Rihanna’s ‘Bitch Better Have My Money’ and Kanye West’s ‘Black Skinhead’.

Once on Tottenham Court Road, much to the exasperation of taxi drivers, the crowd, which was several hundred strong, crawled towards Warren Street station before reaching the viaduct at the end of the road. At this point, an effigy of Rex Knight was set alight to cheers from an irate crowd before they headed back down Tottenham Court Road – via the pavement – and finished peacefully with speeches in the quad.
