The Central line is reopening at Tottenham Court Road today

It’s been closed for a year

Tottenham Court Road Tube station reopens its Central line platform today after 12 months in the dark.

TCR is now sporting a step-free access lift shaft, six newly refurbished escalators, and refitted platforms and passageways complete with improved lighting and CCTV.

Additionally, a specialist team of art restorers have made the most of the closure, enabling them to restore iconic 20th century Paolozzi mosaics as part of a wider project, due for completion in 2016, when it’s hoped 95 per cent of station mosaics will have been fully restored to their 1984-mer glory.

Second year Katie Francis said: “It’s such a relief it’s opened again, I commute in from Liverpool Street so it means I don’t have to change tubes.

“It’ll save me the stress of changing at Bank in rush hour and gives me an extra 10 minutes in bed. Perfect.”
