Macer Gifford will speak at UCL tonight

The event has sold out

After weeks of uncertainty and debate, Macer Gifford is set to speak at UCL this evening about his experiences fighting in Syria.

Last month, UCLU no-platformed the ex-student, who had spent five months fighting Da’esh in Syria, but after mounting pressure from students, the decision was reversed and the date was set for tonight, at 7pm in the Darwin B40 lecture theatre.

Due to the huge media attention following the controversy, the Union has only allowed UCL students to attend the event, yet tickets sold out in five hours and the 300 capacity lecture theatre is set to be filled to the brim.

Kavar Kurda, President of the Kurdish Society – who are hosting the event – told The Tab: “I’m very excited about this evening.

“It’ll be a great opportunity for UCL students to have a greater insight into this fight, especially after all the escalations in France and the parliamentary debate today.”
