Northern Line drivers on strike tomorrow

UCL commuters in for grim Monday as drivers protest against sacking of colleague who was “drinking on duty”

The Northern Line could grind to a halt on Monday as drivers stage a 24-hour strike that Tube bosses say “will achieve nothing”.

The walkout – which will begin at 4:43am tomorrow – is in protest at the sacking of a driver who failed a breathalyser test and had allegedly been drinking on duty.

Although London Underground said that it will try and maintain a good service on the busy line serving Warren Street and Euston, likely disruption means that you’ll be better off getting the bus or – god forbid – walking.

Last-ditch crisis talks held in an effort to prevent the strike last week broke down.

Rail union boss Mick Cash said that reports that the sacked driver had been drinking on the job were “totally untrue” – but Transport for London say the union have broken an agreement by calling the strike while the driver’s appeal against his dismissal is still ongoing.
