House of horrors at UCL with second internet meltdown in a month

Halloween nightmare as server outage hits all students

On Friday afternoon the UCL server collapsed in a campus wide outage.

At approximately 2pm students realised the “eduroam” Wi-Fi network and all websites run by UCL, including Moodle and UCL Library Services, were down.

The horror, the horror

In chaotic scenes students scrambled from the Main Library across Malet Place to Foster Court to test the internet connection there.

However, students soon realised that the Wi-Fi was not working across the entire UCL campus, including teaching buildings scattered across Tottenham Court Road and residences including Ramsay Hall.

No internet here

A man at the Internet Services Desk in the Main Library reported the system had collapsed “at least in the library and possibly across the university.”

This incident spelled a nightmare for UCL’s ISD the afternoon before Halloween and is the second tech problem affecting all of UCL students just this month, after Bellogate.

By 3pm, the server was working again.
