Studying a little too hard? Feeling slightly peckish? Distance yourself from your books and head out on a cupcake adventure. These fluffy, moist, cup sized cakes with a hefty layer of icing will definitely get you back on track. After all, who doesn’t like cupcakes? Here is our top selection of what London has to offer.

The Hummingbird Bakery

Key Lime or Snickers? Tricky choice.

Extra points for their cute boxes

With six stores dotted around London, it is fairly easy to get your hands on these beauties. At £2.50, it was also one of the cheapest options. Their American style cupcakes are original and fresh, and almost a bit too good. I would suggest the Black bottom: Dark chocolate sponge with chocolate chip cheesecake centre and cream cheese frosting. Hello heart attack.

Bea’s Bloomsbury

With a window display like that, how could you say no?

Oreo and cream cupcake. Delish.

This lovely bakery is jam packed with freshly baked goodness, and just a stone’s throw away from UCL. With tasty cupcakes, a cute interior and friendly staff, stopping in here is a must, especially if you like cookies on your cupcakes (and in your icing!). You may feel that £3.00 a cupcake is a bit pricey, but trust me, they’re worth every penny! Bea’s Bakery also serves afternoon tea from 14:30, as well as a savoury lunch meal, which changes daily.

Primrose Bakery

Todays cocktail cupcake: Moscow Mule.

Too many to choose from

Founded in Primrose Hill, the Primrose Bakery has now expanded to Covent Garden, which is very good indeed. With a plethora of cupcakes, this little bakery oozes quirkiness. It also smells like a bakery should, which will make you want to stay for hours. Along with great coffee and knowledgeable staff, this is somewhere you want to go if you want a great little cake. A cocktail cupcake costs £3.90, however you can find regular cupcakes for as low as £2.25, so definitely worth a visit.

Lola’s Cupcakes

Cupcake trolleys. Genius

The obligatory Red Velvet

If you’ve been to Topshop on Oxford street, then you will probably have seen these cupcakes before. Lola’s newest move? Cupcake trolleys on the underground. Stationed at Kings Cross, this allows you to easily have a cupcake on the go, and who would say no to that? Priced at around £2.75, these scrumptious cakes are also available in Mini form.
