Liverpool is the first city to offer whole city testing in UK

Everyone living or working in Liverpool will be offered tests

Liverpool will be the first city to trial whole city testing for Covid-19 in England, offering everyone who lives and works here tests regardless of whether they have symptoms or not.

Everyone will receive follow-up tests after around every two weeks, and some tests will be giving results within an hour.

The government aims to spread these tests out to millions by Christmas.

The aim of the city-wide testing is to minimise coronavirus transmissions by being aware of who has the virus to ensure those infected are ‘breaking chains of transmission’.

According to the BBC, around 4/5 of people infected with coronavirus are asymptomatic, meaning this scheme could help prevent undiagnosed carriers from spreading the virus further.
