Top 10 drinking games to get you through UoL lockdown pres

Is there really more to pres than Never Have I Ever?

Drinking games are without a doubt a solid staple in every uni household. The secrets revealed memories made, alcohol consumed- some would say they’re necessary for a healthy, functioning, happy household. That said, thanks to our friend Covid-19, pres are now lacking the main event and afters are now non-existent.

In times like these, as students, we’re forced to find our fun in groups of six and in the confines of our cozy student homes, making this the perfect time to step up our drinking games game.

Save yourself the endless scrolling through Reddit threads and google searches trying to find new drinking games- we’ve compiled a list of our ten favourite drinking games to save your boring selves. Have fun!

The Classics

If you have never heard of them, where have you been hiding?

Ring of Fire

If a big red cup filled with a mad concoction of vodka, VK, wine, and some kind of beer doesn’t haunt your dreams, you have been doing Fresher’s wrong.

This classic is a great way to start the night, given it is usually the only drinking game people can remember off the top of their head, and it is actually good fun if you can remember what number means what.

Never Have I Ever

If you’re wanting to know your new (or well established) mate’s darkest desires, this is the obvious choice. More often than not, it’s always the ones you don’t expect with the secrets.

Beer Pong

Unless you happen to have a long table in your living room, which is unlikely, beer pong can pretty much be achieved by pushing two desks together and buying some plastics cups and a ping pong ball. Just beware, there is always one show off. Also, if you want to survive the night, don’t half fill the cups with spirits.

The ones that require some creativity

Drunken Jenga

If you have any artists in your flat (which you are bound to) get them decorating some plain Jenga bricks with all kinds of dares and instructions. Do the dare or drink! You can get creative with your forfeits and for knocking over the Jenga tower.

Say It or Shot It

Basically, a game of truth or drink. Each player should have a shot, a nasty one they don’t actually want to drink and take it in turns to be asked questions they don’t want to answer. The trickier the question, the better. If they can’t answer, they must take the shot. Perhaps the best game for finding out the controversial opinions of your friends.

More Likely

Two players must stand back to back, unable to see each other, and answer who is more likely questions posed by the group, drinking their drink if they believe they are more likely than the opposite player. If both drink or don’t drink, they must drink again, and if only one drinks, the group must drink. This game really depends on some imaginative questions and is a wonderful way to discover the hidden narcissists of the group.

Short and Sweet Games

Fuzzy Duck

Fuzzy duck is a tongue twister. Going around in a circle each player must say “fuzzy duck” until someone says “does he?”, and then everyone must say “ducky fuzz” going back around the circle the opposite way.  Someone will say fuck. And you will laugh.

Where’s the Water?

This game is easy enough but requires some tactful placing and several shot glasses. Players take turns downing a mystery shot, which is either water or any clear spirit, and must attempt to convince everyone else they only drank water by saying, “mmm water”. It is much harder than it sounds and only suitable for the bravest of drinkers. Play with caution or reap the consequences.

The Best Card Games

Bullshit!

All card games are good for any kind of pres, just add the booze. However, bullshit is the ultimate card game with a twist. The aim of the game is to get rid of the cards you have been dealt by tactfully lying. If you’re caught bullshitting, you have to pick up the pile and down that drink.

Spoons

This game is easy and a complete adrenaline rush when you get the hang of it.

Players must position themselves around a table and for each player there is there must be four cards of the same number left in the deck, removing all the rest, (if there are four players, the deck could have all of the 2’s 3’s 4’s and 5’s left in the pile, for example).  Shuffle these cards and equally hand them out to the players. Place some spoons on the table, enough for each player except one.

All at the same time, players must put a card from their hand on the table, to the left, for the person next to them to pick up, while simultaneously picking up the card the player on their other side has put down.

Each player must continuously and quickly repeat putting down a card and picking one up until they can get four of the same number.

The aim is to get all four of one number in your hand and once you have achieved this, to pick up a spoon and place it on your nose.

When other players notice one player has done this they must also grab a spoon and put it over their nose, the person left without a spoon is the loser and must take a shot.  This game is worth the complicated instructions!

Freshers might not be the same, but it can still be fun. Remember to have fun and let loose but drink safely!
