An A-Z guide of where to take your vals or pals in Liverpool this Valentine’s

Treat your secret SJ crush to a trip out

| UPDATED

'Valentine's Day'. Two words that can cause any number of reactions amongst couples, half couples, singletons and everything in-between.

Whether you agree with the icon of the sad gals, Bridget Jones, that 'Valentine's Day is purely a commercial, cynical enterprise' or, if you genuinely want to spoil your val or your pals, here is an A-Z guide of how to spend it in Liverpool this Friday.

A is for Albert Docks

Want to keep it casual and go for a coffee? Head to Peaberry. Wanna impress them by displaying your wealth of knowledge on impressionist paintings? Take them to the Tate. Or if you'd rather just get bladdered, head to Revs.

B is for Bold Street

Bold Street is brimming with cuisines from all over the globe, quirky shops and independent cafes and bars. Regardless of your diet (vegan eats probably outweigh traditional dining on this street anyway), they'll be something on Bold Street that tickles your taste-buds.

C is for Cavern Club

Image may contain: Downtown, Metropolis, Neighborhood, Pavement, Sidewalk, Alleyway, Alley, Human, Person, Walkway, Path, Building, Road, Urban, Town, Street, City

If live music and a bev is more your speed then head to the cavern club to listen to local artists perform some of The Beatles classics. Trust us, after belting out Hey Jude together in the company of middle-aged scouse mums and dads, you're bound to be together until you're that old too.

D is for Duke Street Market

Basically, Baltic Market but in the centre so instead of having to trek to the Baltic Triangle to feed your street food obsession you can head here. Serving everything from Italian to tapas to East Asian food, Duke Street Market has all the bases covered.

E is for Everyman Theatre

Image may contain: Downtown, City, Town, Architecture, Urban, Billboard, Advertisement, Transportation, Vehicle, Train, Building, Office Building

If you would rather spoil your date with something a bit posher than singing Beatles songs with people your mums age why not go to the theatre. The Everyman has a whole host of shows on over Valentine's, including a drag cabaret!

F is for Fazenda

Try dining out the Brazilian way at Fazenda. A boujee version of an all you can eat buffet. You control the evening with a counter; one side is green the other red. If your counter is on the green side chefs will come up to your table and carve sirloin, rib eye, lamb and chicken. If you need a little rest just flip your counter to the red side and you'll be left to gaze lovingly into your date's eyes until you're ready for more steak.

G is for Ghetto Golf

Less intense than a sit-down meal, stir up some friendly competition with your valentine at Ghetto Golf.

H is for Hope Street

A stairway that is always ready for the gram, head to 60 Hope Street for some jazzy cocktails, afternoon tea or a special meal out. This place is pretty swish and pretty spenny. Save your student loan to treat that special person here.

I is for Italian Club

Pasta, pizza and limoncello. If that's not enough to convince you then I don't know what is.

J is for Junkyard Golf

Also looking to provide games and cocktails this vday is Junkyard Golf. Show your date your boundless talents by beating them at one of Junkyard's 9-hole courses.

K is for Kasbah

Not gonna lie this made the list purely because you get given a fez when you sit down. An authentic dining experience and a novelty hat? This is something I'll always endorse.

L is for Lark Lane

A stone's throw away from Smithdown and Greenbank, you and your date can stroll through Sefton before you decide where on Lark Lane you're going to visit. This street has everything from a vegan chippy, a wine bar, a gelato house and enough brunch options that you'll never want dinner again.

M is for Mowgli

With restaurants on Water and Bold Street Mowgli will give you a taste of what Indian street food should taste like. It's lovely inside, fairly priced and caters to veggies, vegans and meat-eaters alike.

N is for Nandos

A cheap and simple way to see if your valentine gives off lemon and herb vibes.

O is for Oh Me Oh My

Overlook the Liver birds whilst enjoying a cocktail on Oh Me Oh My's rooftop terrace. Currently offering a 3-course dinner for £25pp in honour of Valentine's, treat your other half to a swanky meal out.

P is for Pins

Pins may have only opened last week but it's sure to be date hot spot come February 14th. Offering bowling, cocktails that come with candyfloss and food from Bacaro and Rocket and Ruby it has something for everyone.

Q is for Queen Avenue

Liverpool's best kept secret, Queen Avenue is home to restaurants, a hotel and even a upmarket hairdresser's. Planning to eat on Castle Street? Walk through Queens Avenue so that you too, can take a pic of Liverpool's most photographed street.

R is for Red Squirrel Walk

If you don't fancy boozing and eating your way through Valentine's day why not go to Formby and embark on the red squirrel walk to find some furry friends. It takes about an hour, is free to do and is great way to avoid the hectic city centre.

S is for Sefton Park

Image may contain: Pergola, Plant, Patio, Porch, Apparel, Clothing, Shoe, Footwear, Bench, Furniture, Garden, Arbour, Outdoors, Human, Person

Along a similar thread is a visit to Sefton Park. Walk around the lake, visit the Palm House and its exotic plants or even have a picnic. Hot chocolate from the cafe in the park is compulsory to keep you and your date warm.

T is for Ten Streets Market

A hidden gem in north Liverpool is this little vintage market. Find your valentine the perfect present in this renovated warehouse as you sift through vintage stalls selling everything from records to clothes to birc-a-brac.

U is for Up Radio City tower

Image may contain: Obelisk, Control Tower, Column, Pillar, Tower, Monument, Building, Architecture

Tick off that touristy thing you've wanted to do since you moved to the city with your bae this Friday. Take in the city's cathedrals and waterfront from the sky.

V is for Visit a museum

Liverpool is bursting with museums that cover everything from the city's history, contemporary art and popular culture. Most of them are free to visit and are forever changing their exhibitions so there's no danger of you seeing the same thing twice!

W is for Wetherspoons

Image may contain: Furniture, People, Female, Smile, Painting, Art, Clothing, Apparel, Face, Person, Human

Your date might think you're a cheapskate for taking them to spoons but you'll soon with them over with a pitcher of woo woo and a bowl of halloumi fries. With 5 across the city, take your date on a tour of Liverpool's most spectacular sight; the shenanigans of the Lime Kiln dance floor on a Friday night.

X is for (e)X Directory

One of Liverpool's underground bars that you enter by picking up the phone in a telephone box. We'd tell you where it is but that would spoil the fun.

Y is for Yard and Coop

Eat chicken to your hearts content with your Valentine at Yard and Coop. It's cheap and tasty and is currently offering a whole menu dedicated to Saint Valentine himself.

Z is for Zoo

So not technically in Liverpool (or even Merseyside), Chester Zoo is really easy to get to from the city centre and is sure to provide a wholesome Valentine's day full of fur babies. Alternatively, if you or your date drives, then go to Knowsley Safari Park to get up close and personal with the animals.
