There has been a chemical leak outside the UoL Department of Chemistry

Grove Street was cordoned off last night


A gas cylinder containing liquid nitrogen leaked outside a UoL building on Wednesday afternoon.

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service told The Liverpool Tab: "MFRS was alerted at 4:50 pm and on the scene at 4:57 pm."

"Three engines and a search and rescue vehicle attended."

No one was injured in the incident, but the site was cordoned off until 6:59 pm.

A University of Liverpool statement reads: "A leak of liquid nitrogen from a cylinder outside one of our buildings on Wednesday caused a small white cloud to develop."

"As a precautionary measure, Grove Street was cordoned off by Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service and the building evacuated while the leak was repaired."

"There were no reported injuries and the area was secured. An internal review will be conducted."

Students who noticed the Fire & Rescue Service at the scene took to Liverfess to discuss the incident.

Students claimed that the building in question was in the Department of Chemistry, which borders Grove Street.
