The Tab’s guide to Liverpool’s ultimate Instagram hot spots: the must snaps before you graduate

Because let’s be honest, did you even go to the University of Liverpool if you haven’t snapped a pic at the Cavern Club?

Your time at university is said to be one of the best times of your life and so surely your Instagram should reflect that? It's true that living life through a lens is no way to live, but with that being said, it's good to take a couple of photos for the memz. So in the spirit of this, here are the coolest places to visit in Liverpool on a Wednesday afternoon in the name of Instagram (because who even does sports??). Whether you're photo documenting your first year or about to step into the big wide world of reality it's time to start snapping the best Liverpool has to offer.

Albert Dock and Pier Head

First up on the list is the obvious – it's true that every man and their dog will have snapped a photo here at some point; the Albert Dock and Pier Head are iconic in terms of Liverpool's skyline, it's where the Liver Bird presides over the city (definitely tuning in to watch all of our drunken mistakes play out in Concert Square). The waterfront also plays a pivotal role in preserving the maritime past that built Liverpool from the ground up. It's a popular spot for students who don't know what to do with their parents when they come up to see them – yeah, we see you visiting the docks in a desperate bid to convince them that they do more than just drink. It's also the perfect place for a nice evening stroll. Whatever the occasion, the Albert Dock and Pier Head come hand in hand and are a firm favourite for all the instagrammers of Liverpool.

Chinatown

Part of the appeal of going to university in a city is the exposure to different cultures and diversity. Liverpool boasts the largest archway outside of China showing our historically close trade links with Shanghai. As a result Chinatown is at the heart of our city, and what better way to show this than adding a flash of colour and culture onto your Instagram?

Concert Square

Liverpool has a reputation to uphold when it comes to its nightlife and as a student this is not to be dismissed on the 'gram – after all, it is such a large part of university life. Now we're not saying to upload all the drunken pics from a wild night out (or do, whatever floats your boat) but instead, to appreciate that despite all of the aforementioned drunken messes (you know who you are), Concert Square is actually quite pretty. The bright lights and vibrant atmosphere speak volumes for the buzzing nightlife of Liverpool and should be shown off accordingly. Instagram is for bragging after all!

Sefton Park

Only a short walk from student stronghold Smithdown Road, Sefton Park remains a popular choice for students to chill out when the sun is shining (e.g. a heatwave in February – thanks global warming!) and for when your concrete excuse of a "back garden" just isn't cutting it. The Victorian features (such as the botanical Palm House or the Iron Bridge) prove for an interesting afternoon of exploration if you're looking for a reason other than uni to leave your room.

Literally anything Beatles related ever

Oh sorry, did you think you'd get through a guide of Liverpool without a Beatles mention? Of course not. The Beatles have played a massive role in putting Liverpool on the map as a city and this is pretty evident any direction you look. For this reason, whether a fan or not, they deserve a feature on insta. Popular spots include an amble down Mathew Street, a drink in the Cavern Club, photos with the statues along the waterfront, a photo of the Penny Lane sign – the list is endless!

So, if you're not guilty of taking a photo in one of these spots over the past year, then honestly, do you even go here? It's time to show off how fabulous our city can be, and get yourself some likes. You're welcome.
