Breaking: Strikes to continue as the Liverpool branch of the UCU reject proposed deal from UUK

They claim the current offer is a ‘sham deal’

Yesterday evening, the University and Colleges Union (UCU) agreed to a temporary deal with Universities UK, which would end the strikes as of Wednesday the 14th of March. However, across the country, local branches of the UCU have expressed their anger with the deal and are refusing to end strike action. Liverpool is one such branch.

In Liverpool, a motion has been passed by UCU members to unanimously reject the agreement with UUK and calling for the UCU national leadership to also reject the offer. The motion has been shared on Twitter, alongside a tweet that refers to the offer from UUK as a 'sham deal'.

According to the UoL UCU official Twitter account, members will be out on the picket lines again tomorrow.

Liverpool is now one of over 50 local UCU branches to have rejected the deal. Across the country the hashtag #NoCapitulation is trending as pressure mounts on the national leaders of the UCU to listen to its members.

At this time, there is no word from the UCU headquarters. Like The Tab Liverpool on Facebook to keep up to date with this breaking news as it unfolds.
