Liverpool arrived en masse outside St George’s Hall yesterday evening to protest the Muslim Ban imposed by President Trump, as well as Prime Minister Theresa May’s complicity in refusing to condemn the ban.

Around 2,500 people attended the protest, which was organised by Liverpool Momentum. The event was one of a number of huge marches that happened across the country, with other notable events happening outside 10 Downing Street and in Manchester, Nottingham, Cardiff and Glasgow. The mood at the Liverpool protest was passionate, and a vast array of homemade signs were visible. These were the best.

The series of nationwide demonstrations were stated as being ‘against Trump’s Muslim Ban, and Theresa May’s refusal to condemn his actions’.

The Liverpool Facebook event stated: ‘Donald Trump has imposed a ban on people from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the US and while Jeremy Corbyn was quick to call for the cancellation of Trump’s UK State visit, our Prime Minister, Theresa May, has failed to speak out to defend our values of humanity and compassion. It is a matter of national shame.’

One of the organisers led a series of chants, including “hey, ho ho, Donald Trump has to go”, “immigrants in, Theresa May out” and “say it loud, say it clear, immigrants are welcome here.”

The UK events followed a volley of protests at US airports earlier this week, where immigrants were being detained by border control from 7 muslim majority countries, including Syria, Somali , Sudan and Yemen, on the order of Trump.
