Plans submitted for more student accomodation in the city centre
Two takeaways could be knocked down
Carpenter Investments have submitted plans to build an apartment block on Hardman Street, next door to The Fly in the Loaf.
The plans specify “90 student accommodation cluster apartments offering a range of 1, 2, 3 & 4 bedspaces (218 in total) within interconnected blocks up to 7 storeys in height, together with associated external works.”
The building, which in the 1970s was a club for sailors from all around the world, would be completely demolished and replaced with the seven storey halls. If the plans go ahead both Passion Pizza and Pizza Hub will be closed down.
Second year business student Tom isn’t impressed: “We don’t need more first year halls in Liverpool. We need more affordable and better quality housing for second and third years.
“Companies should be investing in that rather than following their own profit-orientated goals of creating really expensive flats that very few can afford.”
This follows plans announced last week to build 200 flats near Kitchen Street, potentially jeopardising the venue.
