A former history lecturer from Liverpool is the new UKIP Leader

Paul Nuttall is taking over from Nigel Farage

Paul Nuttall, former deputy UKIP leader, has just been elected by UKIP members to replace Nigel Farage as the party’s leader.

He won 62.6 per cent of the vote, beating former deputy chairwoman Suzanne Evans who polled 19.3 per cent.

The former history lecturer is from Bootle, and studied History at Edge Hill before graduating with a BA and later an MA from Liverpool Hope university, where he specialised in British Edwardian politics.

Nuttall is the MEP for the North West of England, and the responsibility to “revitalise” UKIP now falls on him after a loss of members to the Conservatives post-Brexit.

He has strong rightwing views on crime, is open to a referendum on the reintroduction of the death penalty for child killers, and opposes abortion.
